The standard bit rate at which VCDs are encoded are 1152 bits per second for VCD and 2500 bits per second for SVCD. Higher bit rate results in higher quality.
A VCD encoded at a higher than standard bit rate is called an XVCD.
An SVCD encoded at a higher than standard bit rate is called an XSVCD.

Although all computers should be able to play XVCDs and XSVCDs using XVCD or SXVCD player software, they are not playable by all component players. Because of this incompatibility, XVCDs and SXVCDs cannot be played as widely as VCDs.

To make an XVCD or SXVCD, you need to
- Convert the video files from their current format to XVCD or SXVCD
- Create the disk image
- Burn the disc.
When looking for software, make sure you get both converter software and burner software.
