How to use the Gutmann standard compliant feature
of Shredit X

ShredIt X can be configured to comply with the Gutmann shredding standard.

Keep in mind that

  • Erasing data with Gutmann standard compliance enabled will take a very long time.


Requirements

  • ShredIt X for Mac OS X


Instructions

1.

In the preferences, enable the Gutmann feature.

From the “ShredIt X” menu, select “Preferences” and click on the "Settings" tab. From the menu, change the number of overwrites to "35".

For further information on updating the preferences, refer to the "How to Install ShredIt X" section of the ShredIt X ReadMe (pdf)
