How to Convert WMV to MPEG, DVD, VCD, SVCD
on Mac OS X using iVCD

iVCD can be used as an MPEG encoder to convert WMV to MPEG.  It can encode as

  • MPEG-1 (VCD profile, or generic profile),
  • MPEG-2 (SVCD profile, DVD profile or generic profile).

Requirements

Instructions

1.

If you haven't already done so, download and install the required component.

2. Create a new project folder or open an existing one.

Burning DVD Project Folder

  • To open an existing project, select "Select Project" and navigate to an existing project.

  • To Create a New project,

    • From the Project Folder Dialog, select “Create Project”.
Name the new project folder. (we suggest the folder name end with MPEG). The project will be configured using the default settings. (To change the default settings, use the Preferences panel.)

Storing your movie and it's settings in a project folder makes it easy to save your information so you can pick up where you left off, instead of having to finish your project in one sitting, which is often difficult to do at first. It also makes it easy to create more copies of a DVD once you have perfected your project.

3.

Modify the settings according to the type of MPEG you want to convert to.

MPEG -1 (VCD profile):

  • Change "Media Type" to "Video CD"
convert WMV to MPEG-1 VCD settings

MPEG -2 (SVCD profile):

  • Change "Media Type" to "Super Video CD"
Convert WMV to MPEG-2 SVCD settings

MPEG -2 (DVD profile):

  • Change "Media Type" to "DVD"
Convert WMV to MPEG-2 DVD settings

Generic MPEG -1:

  • Change "Media Type" to "Video CD"
    convert WMV to MPEG-1 settings

Generic MPEG -2 :

  • Change "Media Type" to "Super Video CD"
    Convert WMV to MPEG-2 settings

To delete a movie/playlist from the Movie List
o Click the "Movies" tab
o Single-click the movie/playlist to select it

5.

Click the “Convert to MPEG” button.

iVCD Convert Button

Because converting to MPEG takes a long time, (at least four times as long as the movie length and even longer on slower machines), we suggest you run this job overnight.

6.

Once thethe “Convert to MPEG” process has completed successfully, the “Convert to MPEG” dialog will disappear.
