NetShred Quick Tour
Restarting NetShred automatically

To make it even easier to use NetShred, set it up to launch automatically, and NetShred will start itself.

Like all software, NetShred X has to be running to work. However, when you logout, all running applications are shut down by the operating system, including NetShred X. We thought of this too. To avoid having to re-start NetShred X manually every time you log in, configure it as a Login item, so that the operating system will re-start it for you.

1.

Running under Mac OS X 10.3 or later

  • From the Dock, select System Preferences and select “Accounts
  • Select the “Startup Items” tab.
  • Drag the NetShred X icon into the “StartUp Items” window and click the “Hide” checkbox

Running under OS X 10.2 or earlier
  • From the Dock, select System Preferences and select “Login
  • Select the “Login Items” Dialog Box.
  • Drag the NetShred X icon into the “These items will open automatically when you login” list, and click the “Hide” checkbox.

Key points

Run NetShred this way and it will:

  • Start automatically when you log in
  • Run automatically when you quit from your browser or email program
  • Shred automatically whatever internet tracks you specified
  • Hide automatically when it's done
